Newton investment conference 2010
The theme of our briefings this year was Investments - Through the looking glass. This refers to the ostensible 'parallel worlds' which have opened up in global markets, allowing a range of curious scenarios to unfold.
We talked about the enigmatic conditions prevalent on the investment landscape, and explained how we are confronting the challenges and harnessing the opportunities in financial markets in order to help our clients meet their investment objectives. We considered which investment approaches are appropriate against a highly uncertain backdrop, and illustrated how we are using our evolving investment themes to understand how the world is changing.
For those unable to attend, or those that would like to see the individual sessions again or receive the briefing brochure, please contact Matt Brown on 020 7163 4197 or by email at .
Newton investment conference 2009
We held our annual investment conference in November 2009 at The Landmark Hotel in London.
The theme this year was Securing the future. Over the last two years, investors have experienced great insecurity about the fortunes of financial markets. At the event we reflected upon the events of those two years, as we believe that it is timely to consider the lessons that can be learned from the economic and financial-market turmoil that we have witnessed and to review the approaches that investors should take to secure their futures most successfully. We covered the performance of our various strategies, with an emphasis upon the importance of managing portfolio risk as well as seeking returns. We also explained how we are using our evolving investment themes to understand how the world is changing and the opportunities provided as a result.
For those unable to attend, or those that would like to see the individual sessions again, please go to www.newton.co.uk/securingthefuture. Each session is available to view as a webcast. You can also download the briefing brochure on the site.

2008 Institutional investment briefing
Friday 21 November
The Landmark Hotel, London
This year we are celebrating Newton's 30th birthday and observing that, over the 30 years since our inception, there have been enormous changes in the investment landscape. It is intriguing to look back at some of those changes, and we are proud to reflect upon the strong performance that we have achieved on behalf of our clients over the last three decades. During the briefing, we will look back at some of the changes that we have witnessed since 1978 and at how our global, thematic approach has provided the perspective that has been vital to our clients' investment success.
However, it is the future that excites us most, and over the morning we will talk about how we are developing our themes to enable us to continue to exploit investment opportunities in a rapidly changing world. Subjects will include the implications of all change in a 'deleveraging' world, with particular focus upon the outlook for shareholders in banks and for investors in corporate bonds. We will also explore the prospects for energy and commodity markets, as identified in our Earth matters theme; and we will look at the exciting prospects for investment in developing economies.
Additionally we are pleased that the award-winning broadcaster, Andrew Marr, will be joining us as a guest speaker over lunch, during which he will provide a 30-year perspective on modern Britain.
